ABOUT THE PUBLICATION

Private matters.
Public discussion.

An independent journal of men’s health.

Founded to improve the quality of conversation around men’s health, The Gentleman’s Complaint publishes personal accounts, archival research and correspondence on matters too often overlooked in routine consultation.

We believe that a thoughtful account of an individual experience can be valuable to readers who have struggled to find the words for their own. Our contributors write with candour, discretion and respect for the circumstances of others.

Editorial approach

The journal brings together first-person writing, material from the archive and discussion among readers. We favour clear language, careful observation and sufficient room for a contributor to finish.

Personal accounts reflect the experience and interpretation of their authors. Publication does not constitute a clinical assessment or a recommendation of treatment.

Correspondence

Letters should concern the account under discussion. Contributors may use a consistent pen name. Please respect the privacy of family members, colleagues and anyone whose involvement has been incidental.

The editors reserve the right to withhold contributions that are abusive, promotional or insufficiently attentive to the point.

The editorial board

The board meets quarterly, subject to seating arrangements.
